Urology San Antonio Celebrates Nurse Practitioner Week

November 13-19, 2016 is National Nurse Practitioner Week. Urology San Antonio is proud to employ 7 Nurse Practitioners (NPs). There are about 200,000 NPs practicing in the United States and almost 15,000 of them are in Texas. Our NPs are an integral part of our medical staff.

What is a Nurse Practitioner?
A Nurse Practitioner is a registered nurse who has advanced education and clinical training. All our NPs are nationally certified. In Texas, NPs are able to write prescriptions through written agreements with a collaborating physician. In addition to completing post-graduate degrees, NPs must renew their licenses every two years and show proof of completing continuing medical/nursing education.

Why should I see a Nurse Practitioner?
Nurse Practitioners are highly trained health professionals that promote health and prevent disease through comprehensive health care and education. Our NPs work closely with your physician to provide you the best in urologic care.

What kinds of services to NPs provide?

  • Examining and assessing patients
  • Diagnosing, treating, and managing acute and chronic health issues
  • Prescribing medications and other treatments
  • Educating patients on disease prevention and healthy lifestyle choices

Do I have to see the NP?
We are confident our NPs are capable of caring for your urologic needs. Our NPs will involve physicians when necessary and at your request.
