San Antonio Cancer Center is proud to share that we have treated our first metastatic prostate cancer case with Actinium-225 on a research protocol, expanding access to innovative theranostic options for patients in San Antonio.
Theranostics is an emerging branch of precision oncology combining targeted imaging and targeted therapy to help deliver treatment more directly to cancer cells.
Actinium-225 is being studied as a promising alpha-particle therapy that may represent a meaningful advancement in radiopharmaceutical treatment. Because alpha particles are significantly larger and more powerful than beta particles, they can deposit high-energy radiation over a very short distance — acting like a “nano-scalpel” designed to target cancer cells while helping limit exposure to surrounding healthy tissue.
We are excited to support research that may help advance future treatment options for men facing metastatic prostate cancer.
